Cool Schools Yolo

Back To Our Work

The Program

Funding for the Cool Schools Yolo program is provided by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection’s Urban and Community Forestry Program (CAL FIRE). A $21 million grant was awarded to the Texas Trees Foundation, which, together with Tree Davis and the Woodland Tree Foundation is working to transform nine campuses across the Washington Unified and Woodland Joint Unified School Districts.

Community Plantings

Research consistently shows that children who spend more time outdoors experience improved mental and physical health. This program focuses on expanding tree canopies at public schools to help protect students from the impacts of climate change such as extreme heat. Each school will benefit from a nature-based playground, outdoor learning spaces, and the planting of more than 100 trees. The goal is to promote physical activity, support mental health, and enhance the overall well-being of students and staff. Construction is expected to complete in July of 2026.
